Let me summarize what the three lecturers have said first.
Prof. Andrew Palmer, from department of civil engineering of NUS, has taught us a lot about carbon dioxide capture and storage technology and policies.
He stated that there were many things we human beings encountered such as population, the shortage of food and energy, terrorism, among which global warming is one of the most serious problems.
However, the situation is really becoming worse and worse cause not enough attention has been paid on this particular problem. Scientists are all working hard to find the best way of handle the redundant carbon dioxide. Some suggest it be stored into the deepest part of the ocean, which in turn, may make the ocean acid by dissolving in the water.
But what can we do to relieve the effects global warming has brought. Well, in the first place, we should just accept the world as it is now. And then, do every little thing that we can think of to defeat this global disaster. The most important role may be served by the government who can make laws and rules to force people to obey.
All in all, we should make no effort contributing to defeating global warming, so that it won’t be the worst problem we are facing in 100 years’ time.
The 2nd presentation about using STS(Science & Technology Studies) to address energy and technological problems is given by Doctor Sovacool.
He roughly introduced the traditional ways of technology analysis. He emphasized the significance of technology in modern society, and meanwhile pointed out the pretty fast pace of the improvement of technology as well as the means of analyzing it.
In addition, social science system approach is another point. Based on what he has said, social science is kind of research on the relationships between people. It’s an invisible part which connects technology and authority.
In conclusion, STS helps people build up a fresh image of technology mentally and evaluate technologies globally rather than partially. It largely optimizes the benefit of both parties who are doing business with each other and improves the relationships between people to certain degree.
Finally come to the third part of the lecture.
Similar to the first one, this lecturer taught us something about climate change due to greenhouse effect and other various kinds of pollutions. According to what he has said, the earth is facing a rise in temperature, which results in sea-level rise, melting of ice existing in the two poles of the earth and etc. The earth is punishing us via changing forests into droughts, letting rivers flood, making more kinds of animals extinct and so on and so forth.
He has analyzed the factors caused all these scenarios, and then stated out what difficulties we would have in road and what roles our government and us might act as.
All in all, do what single little we can to save our only earth and thus can we survive!
I get something that may be a little against what the lectures have said. They suggested that we should increase the tax on cars of fuel-consuming machines in order to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide. Is it against the goal of the whole world that we should optimize people’s life as much as possible? In my view, it’ll be a lot better if we emphasize on the changing of fuel rather than reduce the emission by tax-rising.
That’s all what I got from the lecture.^_^

I think your inclusion of the last point is good. Good in the sense that, the way problems are being tackled is usually with pertinence to their own countries or the likes of it. It will be hard to consider the situation other countries are in. Hence, the inclusion of the last point might as the well gives us a broader perspective to the matter.
